How To Be Eye Catching, Kind Of

It's article time in article town. Here's a nice and short one, but it holds some good advice in it. It's about how to make a clothing line 'eye-catching'. But I think it applies well to designing for companies like I post on here everyday. Take a quick read, it might help you out.

This is more of a tutorial than an article but it is very useful either way. Designers that are out there need to have online portfolios to show people their work, and no one wants to sift through pages and pages of art, so, this article will teach you how to do it all in one simple page.

Another thing I found on this awesome website is some t-shirt design mock-up templates. These are very useful in making your design look professional and clean when you submit them to websites. You can download them all for free right here.

Did anyone learn anything new from the articles I posted yesterday? I hope so. Look out for some more of them next weekend, I think articles will be a weekend thing since most voting sites don't put designs up for voting on weekends anyway. Good idea? Anyways...

I thought maybe I'd take a break from the designs and try to share some very useful information. Continue to vote for yesterdays designs though!

I sometimes find that people trying to promote their designs on the internet, don't know how to use it correctly. So I found a few articles that I think cover some of these issues pretty well. There are some great pointers in all of them.

The first one I found is about Twitter, and how to know who to follow, and, not follow. It also covers a ton of other tips on how to keep your followers interested. This awesome article is by Coty Gonzales. Now go read the article here.

The second article I have for you is more about social networking in general. It explains about networking and finding the right people to network with. This article is by Anthony Marsh, who is the owner of PopularThreadz.com and CrackSmokingShirts.com. My plans were to post 5 more Halloween designs from Teextile. But, I'm not thinking I'm going to be finding 5 that I think are suitable. Plus, there really aren't that many posted on there. So I will do my best. And I hope you will all do your best to vote for these spooky designs =)

Okay, so I could only find these two decent ones. Maybe I'll wait a little longer to see if more Halloween designs get submitted to Teextile. I have an alternative plan though so don't worry! Here are some other great designs I spotted while I was on the prowl.

DBH 10k 3rd and 4th Places

This is the 4th place design done by gloopz. The man on the shirt is waving around a flare waiting to me rescued while enjoying a strawberry ice pop. I don't really know the point of it. But it is kind of amusing.

This design titled Journey To The City of No Horizon is by TanYauHoong and is 3rd place in the DBH 10k contest. I love this one, the perspective of it is my favorite.

Major congrats to thestray on Design By Humans for this amazing win of his. The winning designs name is Umibozu. I don't actually know what it means, haha. But this is what stray said in his description that sums it up pretty well:

"Umibōzu (Japanese: 海坊主 sea bonze) is a spirit in Japanese folklore. The Umibōzu is said to live in the ocean and capsize the ship of anyone who dares speak to it. This spirit’s name, which combines the character for “sea” with the character of “Buddhist monk,” is possibly related to the fact that the Umibōzu is said to have a large, round head, resembling the shaven heads of Buddhist monks. Alternatively they are enormous Yokai (spectres) that appear to shipwreck victims and fishermen. They are believed to be drowned priests, and exhibit the shaven head and typically appears to be praying."

Now, on to today's feature:

This nice little design is by famousafterdeath on Teextile. The title is WARNING: Handle With Care. Portraying the idea that someone is made of glass inside. At least, that's what I gather from it. Either way, this design is simple with only 2 colors but to some people could be quite meaningful.

Metal Ink Business

Congrats to Jimiyo, on getting printed at Metal Ink. Jimiyo is well known among the t-shirt world. As part of the staff at Design By Humans and an awesome designer as well as an all around cool guy. He has been printed many times, but this was his first submission, and first print at Metal Ink. Take a closer look.

Now on to today's feature:

This design is just awesome. When I saw it on the voting page my first thought was "I have no chance now". The designer, dzeri29 has a great style and his designs are both unique and original. Send some votes his way he deserves it.

I know, its been a while...a LONG while. I got caught up with my job and some designs I've been working on and such. My apologies. Trying to get back in the habit of posting here because it was working quite well and people were actually following me.

Okay, so I feel like I should get my viewers involved in the TeeSpotter blog. I've had a few ideas on how to do this. But I think this one is a good way to start.

Once a week I will dedicate a post to designs that YOU(the viewers) suggest to me. To suggest a design, it must be from one of the websites listed on the right hand side of my blog. Also, you cannot(CANNOT) suggest yourself.

If you would like to suggest a design to me you can do so by leaving a comment on any of my posts. I'll always be accepting suggestions but that does not mean that all suggestions will be blogged. You may suggest a max. of 2 designs per week.

If there are any questions, please feel free to ask =) Also, if you have any other ideas that you think might be cool to get our viewers involved, I encourage you to share them with me. Good day all!

This great parody of the oh-so-burned out tiger face t-shirt is by WinterArtwork on Design By Humans. Not only is this a funny shirt but it is also very very well illustrated. The colors and detaling are amazing. Now kids, don't try this at home.

Music Shines is by Alnavasord on Teextile. In case you couldn't tell, this design has a lot to do with MUSIC! Now that we have that sorted out, I think it is a very well put together abstract interpretation of the artists feelings about their jams.

"Here we have the local dragon groupie who has wandered deep into the dragon's lair to paint his claws a lovely shade of red while he's sleeping.....or is he?" - Eveningsun, the designer of this awesome dragon tee. I'm a sucker for dragons but not all of them are good. This one though, is amazing.

This sugar skull-esque design is called Calavera De Azucar(accent thingy on the U, I don't know how to do it haha). It is by sassatattoo on Shirt Fight. One of the traditions of "dia de los muertos"(day of the dead) is the Sugar skulls, made with the names of the dead person on the forehead, are eaten by a relative or friend. This week on Shirt Fight is for heavyweights only. So look out for the big dogs!

Last but not at all least, is Redemption, by Rasefour on Metal Ink. This amazing design is completely hand drawn which is why I picked it. Rasefour says "It's about demon and God, this artwork visualizes the redemption of demon from God by stabbing the head of the skull." Fair enough.

This ones full of vectory green goodness. Voodoo320 says "I chose this concept because green for me represents a bubbly and energetic aura. Retro symbolizes life during the 70s when the trend was hip and all-night dancing at disco and swinging parties were a hit."

Like I said a few posts ago, Design By Humans is holding an Incubus contest right now. Here are some of my favorites so far!

This one is called Way Under, its by Illylink. I picked this one because of the colors and good use of simple graphics to make a big bold design. Perfect for a band.

I picked this one because of the colors as well but also because of how clean it is without looking too computer generated. It's called Celestial Sea by OneAwayJ.

Now this design is just awesome and cool and a bunch of other adjectives. Its original and and very well put together by pepz. This design is called Creature in Cubus, very very fitting if I do say so myself.

New Sites Added & Pluck Skull by spokeduck on Metal Ink

I found a couple of new sites to include in my blog, and those are Ink-Hound, and Metal Ink. Ink-Hound is pretty cool and unique because not only do they sell shirts but they also include hats in their product lines. Submitting and voting is pretty much the same except for there are two categories, one for hats and one for shirts. Nifty.

Metal Ink on the other hand is your typical t-shirt design voting website, BUT, with tattoo art. Its a really sweet site I encourage you all to take a look. I do warn you though that some of the content on their site isn't well suited for younger viewers, so 18 and over kids. Now, on to today's design.

This design called Pluck Skull is up for voting on Metal Ink, its by a designer from Thailand who goes by spokeduck. I like this design because he illustrates everything himself. There doesn't seem to be too much obvious computer work done. I think I would like it more with color, like blue or green. But its just as well the way it is. Head on over and give it a 10!

This is an awesome design done by freehand on Threadless. It is a jellyfish called JellyRoger, the thumbnail doesn't do it justice so please click on the picture above to see the animated GIF that shows the great placement and the full design. I love cartoon-ish style designs and this one caught my eye because of the way the designer used half-tones for the cap on the jellyfish. Great work now go vote!

Design By Humans is having a contest for the band Incubus. There have been quite a few entries so far but this is one of my favorites. This particular one is called Incubus - The Vault The idea is just so original and well executed. I love how there are eyeballs peeking through the crack in the door, its suppose to be the band members trapped inside the vault. Great design by OKOTOjoe. Maybe I'll do a post sometime this week with a bunch of Incubus designs? Thoughts?

Ah, Threadless. Its getting harder and harder for me to find designs that are awesome on there. But I search none-the-less! Today I picked this one by Tomer Diamant called heartatank. Though simple, this design came from the heart, heh, no pun intended.

This design, featured on Teextile, is called Drop Dead City. As far as abstract designs go, this one is pretty cool. It has a sketchy hand drawn look to it without losing the clean technical mechanic look it has. The colors and placement also caught my eye while looking through pages of designs. Inner-Monster has done made something awesome here.

Shirt Fight's theme this week is robots, cowboys, ninjas and pirates. This particular robot design called Wherrrrr Be My Meal by Demented is my favorite because it incorporates pirates in as well. Most of the others only use one of the theme ideas.

This design is pretty cool. The darker print doesn't show off the details very well but there are very many details. The Threadless designer, svenh, wants the white parts to be superglow ink. I agree this would look awesome.

This cool lizard dude was designed by iguana_02 on Design By Humans. I picked it for today's post because of how clean all of the work is. The colors also work very well with the shirt color. For being a hand-drawn illustration of his own pet named "Lucifero" and then colored in Photoshop, I'm impressed. iguana_02 has two other designs up for voting as well, be sure to check those out!

I've seen a ton of crappy designs for this contest and a few good ones but this one, atleast to me, was pretty great. This one(by mclardia) is just awesome. I play guitar so naturally I was attracted to it, but then I saw all of the fine details in the wings and the intricate designs in the background and I was sold, it was gonna be today's post. What can I say, I'm weak. haha.

There are so many cool things implemented into this design that it just HAD to be picked for our 2nd blog. MartinK took an everyday thing like a cuckoo clock and turned it into something terrible(or awesome, in the design aspect haha). I definitely would not want to mess with this clock.
